Excellency Ambassador/High Commissioners,

Sub. : Joint Statement by Thirteen OECD Ambassadors and High Commissioners in Dhaka, on the Death of Mr. Mushtaq Ahmed' in Police custody

Ref. : Death in Custody of Mustaq Ahmed

We write this note to express our sincere appreciation and thanks to you and your Government for signing the wonderful and timely joint-statement, along with twelve other OECD Heads of Mission in Bangladesh, to register your concern at the custodial death of writer and human rights activist Mushtaq Ahmed on 25 February 2021 (which is widely believed to be another act of extrajudicial killing by law-enforcers in the country).

We fully agree with you that it’s time “to conduct a swift, transparent, and independent inquiry into the full circumstances of Mr. Mushtaq Ahmed’s death’ by the Government of Bangladesh.

We can’t thank you more for your firm and unambiguous assertion that you would continue to engage with the Government of Bangladesh on your Government’s “wider concern about the provisions and implementation of the DSA, as well as questions about its compatibility with Bangladesh’s obligations under international human rights laws and standards”.

It’s indeed a pleasure to thank you on behalf of all members of Voice for Justice World Forum.

With kind regards and warm wishes.

Yours sincerely,

Dr. Hasanat M. Husain MBE
