To all members of Voice For Justice
Dear all,
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/8144531.stm
I have received an e-mail from Detective Inspector Desmond Mchugh of the Metropolitan Police this afternoon confirming that we have finally been able to retrieve £250,000/- of the Hajj Victim's money from Bangladesh.
The victims were mostly elderly pensioners and people who had painstakingly accumulated their lifetime savings for the pilgrimage to Mecca in 2008.
You will recall that an individual by the name Faruq Ahmad, trading under the name “Qibla Hajj Kafela,” based at 2 Old Montague Street, London E1, had absconded to Bangladesh with these prospective pilgrims' deposits.
After lot of efforts, Faruque was brought back to UK, tried and sentenced to jail but, to bring back the the money proved to be the most difficult task.
Today on the 1st of September 2010, after nearly two years, this hugely difficult task is accomplished.
On behalf of Voice For Justice and on behalf of the innocent Hajj victims, I take this opportunity to express our gratitude and thanks to Adviser to Bangladesh Govt. Dr. Gawher Rizvi, Bangladesh Representative to the UN Dr. A. Momen, Governor of Bangladesh Bank Dr. Atiar Rahman, Former Governor of Bangladesh Bank Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, Rt. Hon. Finance Minister of Bangladesh Mr. A. M. A. Muhith and Detective Inspector MET Police Mr. Desmond Mchugh and his team; for helping us achieve this.
DI Desmond Mchugh's perseverance in this whole episode has been exemplary and will remain in the hearts and minds of Brit Bangladeshi community forever.
With best regards.

Many thanks for your assistance on this.
After long negotiations we have received £250,000 back from Bangladesh.
It will be passed to court service to satisfy court compensation order for victims.
We will publicise the recovery of funds but restoration to victims will be actioned by Her Majesty's Court Service.
HMCS will contact the victims by letter. This may take a little while.
Regards
Des McHugh
