India continues to kill unarmed poor villagers along
the borders of Bangladesh India continues to kill unarmed
poor villagers along the border of Bangladesh by mindless trampling of
the Geneva Convention on killing of unarmed people. "According to Odhikar statistics, the BSF had killed at least 20
Bangladeshis and injured 29 until May 31 in 2015 along the borders while
1,055 were killed and 948 were injured between January 1, 2000 and May 31,
2015." (New Age report, http://newagebd.net/125920/20-bangladeshis-killed-by-bsf-in-2015/#sthash.Q3A5hMBn.hfuvz0NK.dpbs). (Please also click to read the Amar Desh report, 2 September
2015) http://www.amardeshonline.com/pages/details/2015/09/03/300368#. It was reported in many
Bangladesh media, and also in Indian media on 1 September 2015 that the
Indian National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) recommended that the govt of
India should pay 5 lakh Rupees to the family of Felani. The recommendation by NHRC is an admission of the
crime committed by the Indian govt. and secondly, compensation to the victim
is a part of justice to the victim as well as a deterrent to govt. lapses in
its rule of law. It reminds the aphorism, "Not only must Justice be
done; it must also be seen to be done." On 2nd September 2015, it was
reported that the Indian Home ministry blamed Felani's
father for his daughter's death, and thus rebuffing and spurning its
NHRC recommendation. We must fight on for justice not
only in Bangladesh, but also in the rest of the world. |
